Golf

Royal Troon (current Open Championship course), Prestwick (home of the Open Championship), Western and Glasgow Gailes are all nearby. Tunberry lies 20 miles down the coast.

Many renowned municipal golf courses are located in the area, such as Troon Darley and Lochgreen, Barassie and Belleisle, and many more.

Visit Historic Buildings and Sites

Culzean Castle is south of Ayr. A magnificent Adams masterpiece set in a National Country Park. At one time President Eisenhower had an apartment in the castle.

Burns Country

Ayrshire is the home of Robert Burns (1759-1796). Visit the Burns Cottage and Museum in Alloway, by Ayr, and the Brig o'Doon which was the setting for Tam O'Shanter. The Bachelor Club in Tarbolton was where Burns learnt to dance and where he founded a debating society. The Poosie Nancies Inn in Mauchline was one of his favourite watering holes.

Day sea trips to Isle of Arran and Cumbrae

Take the ferry from Ardrossan to Brodick on the Isle of Arran. Visit Brodick Castle and its world famous gardens. The more active can climb Goat Fell (red deer abound).  Details of ferry times are available here Calmac.

Alternatively, take the scenic route up the coast to Largs and the boat to Cumbrae. Hire bicycles and cycle round the island

Places To Eat

Our local pubs/restaurants,  Elliots and the Golf Inn, are both within a 5 minute walk and provide excellent fayre at reasonable prices. There are many other restaurants in Prestwick, Ayr and Troon (for the gourmet, the Lochgreen Hotel near Troon - 3 rosettes).
